National Development Plan Grades Competition

Five Cheltenham Gym Centre girls were smiling at the end of the National Development Plan Grades Competition held at the Wiltshire School of Gymnastics in Melksham last weekend [6th - 7th March 2004]. Leah Banks, Birdlip School, Sophie Bogdiukiewicz, Burford Secondary, Tara Kaliszewski, St. Gregory's School, Alexandra MacEachern, Naunton Park School, and Rosie Milan, Coberley School, all competed fiercely against 89 other entrants from nine clubs.

Sophie passed club grade 2 in 10th position and Rosie, Leah, Alexandra and Tara passed club grade 3 in 13th, 14th, 15th and 16th positions respectively, Rosie and Leah with distinction.

Head coach, Martin Collett, said "the standard was incredibly high this year and our girls did themselves and the club proud".

Work has already started this week for the next grade competition to be held next year. Martin continues, "They did well but they need to keep working hard to keep up with the opposition. The other clubs have their own purpose built facilities which enables intensive training and ensures consistently high achievement. Our girls certainly have the talent to go to the top but are held back by the lack of our own facilities".

If you are interested in gymnastics, Martin and his wife Kerwen run classes for all ages and abilities. Call on 01451 820015 or 07870 624180 for more information.
