Newsletter
Well we've had another busy year. All our classes have become more and more popular, so much so that we now have waiting lists for many of them. Our competitive groups have done extremely well, many of them winning medals and achieving personal bests.
Sponsored Cycle Ride
The Gym Centre annual sponsored cycle ride was held on Sunday, 18th July. Members of the Men's Keep Fit Club cycled to Malvern and back, a round trip of 56 miles. This was a big fund-raising event for us. Our goal this year was to raise £2,000 for equipment. As an incentive, we offered £60 off the next training fees of the child who raised the most money. The ride finished at the Exmouth Arms, Bath Road, Cheltenham, where there was a BBQ with face painting and plenty of games to keep the kids entertained.
Inter-Counties Floor and Vault Competition
Five of our girls were selected to represent Gloucestershire at the 2004 Inter-Counties Floor and Vault Competition in Poole. Leah Banks, Alexandra MacEachern and Rosie Milan competed in the under 12s modified category taking the top three positions within the team and earning Gloucestershire a silver medal. Sophie Bogduikiewicz and Savannah DeVillez competed in the over 12s modified category, both achieving personal bests.
Gloucestershire Novice Floor and Vault Championship
The 2004 Gloucestershire Novice Floor and Vault Championship took place at the Forest of Dean. Our gymnasts had a very successful day, many winning medals and all achieving personal bests.
Gym Centre Trials
Trials took place for entry to competitive groups in June. Twenty-two children tried out for places and the results of these will be announced soon.
New Equipment
Following a grant from the Cheltenham Borough Council and previous fund-raising, we have now purchased thirty new mats for the Oasis Centre. We have also acquired a new set of asymmetric bars.
Summer Camp
The summer gym camp began on Monday 26th July for two weeks and as usual was held at GL1. All competitive groups were invited to at least some of the days.
Events
There will be a county and novice four piece championship during October and we hope to take part in the national Gymstrada in Liverpool again this autumn. Look out for news of these and other displays in September.
Thank You
We would like to take this opportunity to thank all those who have worked so hard to make this such a successful year. The coaches, judges, choreographers and parent helpers have worked tirelessly and together make up a very dedicated Gym Centre team. Their efforts are very much appreciated.
